The Great Debate

I have thought a lot about the Presidential election coming up, and I've never really been one to debate politics, but I do feel strongly about a few things. And I guess it's a strong enough opinion to blog about.

Neither McCain nor Obama is my first choice for President. But it seems that those are our options. There are some things I don't like about either candidate. But when it comes time to vote, I think we need to be careful about what issues are driving our decisions. I feel strongly that the most important issues today are supporting the stability of the family and family values. I have a strong testimony of the restored gospel and of our latter-day prophets. Here are quotes from:

'The Family: A Proclamation to the World.'

"We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife."

"We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God’s eternal plan."

"The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity."

"By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners."

"We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets."

I strongly feel that as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I heed this warning and elect leaders who are most supportive of these values and will work to protect the disintegration of the family.

As a mother there are a lot of things I fear. One of those is how to raise my children in a society that is full of so much evil and corruption. If our government is supporting things such as same-sex marriage and abortion, our society will be even more dangerous than it is now. I hope that there are enough people in America that have these strong core beliefs and will vote based on those beliefs, so we end up with a President (and Vice President) who will support this doctrine that I so strongly believe in.

Us On Wheels...

We decided to take Nathan roller skating about 3 weeks ago. He was quite nervous to be on wheels, but after a few minutes he didn't want us to help him at all. He fell a couple of times, but nothing too serious. He was more interested in the game machines surrounding the skating rink, than he was in actually skating. I'm sure we looked quite funny to the rest of the people there, which pretty much consisted of a bunch of Jr. High age kids, and a family birthday party. A grown man, a pregnant woman, and a toddler on skates... I'm sure we were quite the site, but we had fun!

Putting on our skates!

Getting ready to roll!

We're a little braver now...

And we're flying!

More Animals...

Jon and I decided to venture out on the stormy Labor Day and take Nathan to the Hogle Zoo. It was nice that it was cool outside and there weren't too many people there. By the time we left it was nice and sunny, but started out a little wet. Nathan loves animals so much that I am tempted to get a season pass. They are open almost every day of the year. I think they are closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and that is about it. I really think I might get the season pass though. He just loves it too much, and it keeps him so entertained!

Just starting our Rainy Day Adventure!

Nathan and I with the Kangaroos.

He was really scared at first b/c he's afraid of heights, but he enjoyed it by the end of the ride.

Look at all these FUN Animals!!

He had an awesome time and loved seeing all the animals!! We will definitely be going again!

Playing Catch-up

So once again, I'm way behind on what I'd like to post. I've thought a lot lately about different things, and thought that I should really post it on my blog... but it just never happens. There is always something else I feel like I should be doing... or else I'm too sick or tired to try and think about it. But today I'm feeling a little more ambitious, so I am going to attempt to catch up all in one day. I am going to split it up into quite a few different posts. Otherwise, I'll just have one really long post that goes on and on. So sorry it has been so long since an update, and sorry for everything all at once.

Nathan LOVES animals! Unfortunately, he didn't get that from me. I'm not really a big fan of animals... or at least of animals in the house. I'm too paranoid about what is dirty, and what kind of germs are being spread around. I also HATE finding hair of any kind anywhere, and detest strange animal odors. That eliminates most animals. Maybe someday Jon can design a really cool aquarium for a house that we will someday get. It would have to be a self-cleaning tank, but I'm pretty sure he can work that into the design. So... Nathan loves animals, and always wants me to stop on the side of the road when we drive past horses, cows, or anything else he can name. So August 31st, I made my Mom come along as I took Nathan to a petting Zoo in S. Jordan. I don't recall the name, but I will come back in and change it as soon as I remember. So here are some cute pictures of the petting zoo.

Petting the Sheep

The biggest pig any of us have ever seen!!

Nathan was scared of the animals at first and would run away, but by the time we left he was much more willing to go and pet the animals. He LOVED looking at the animals, and was talking about the goats for weeks afterwards.... until we took him to Hogle Zoo. That is for the next post.
