After a long wait...

Matthew Christian Allred is here!

He was born Sunday December 14th, at 10:57am.
7 lbs 2 oz, 19 1/2 in. long.

He seems really small to us because Nathan weighed almost 2 pounds more than this little guy. We do think that they look quite a bit alike, but I think this one might end up looking more like Jon than Nathan does. I can see some of Jon's facial features in him.

I went into the hospital at about 3am with painful contractions, but after an hour of observation, I hadn't progressed. The doctor said to let me walk around for an hour and check me again. After an hour of walking the nurse came in to check me and said that the doctor was going to let me stay no matter what. If I had progressed, then he would come in later to break my water. If not, then they would start me on Pitossin and just induce my labor. When she checked me I hadn't prgoressed (still dilated to a 3), but they went ahead and checked me in. I was still having painful contractions, and they asked me when I wanted the epidural. I said 'now'. That was about 7am. The doctor came in about 8, and broke my water. They said that the anesthesiologist should be there any moment. (haha) An hour later he came, and by then I was starting to scream. It was more of a controlled scream (at least in my memory), but still a scream. The nurse was trying to help me breathe, but it wasn't really helping a whole lot. The epidural hurt going in, but by then I didn't really care that much. A few minutes later, I was doing much better. I got the epidural at 9. The nurse checked me soon after and said I was at about a 5. She checked me again at 10am, and I was a 7. The doctor came in at 10:45 and said I was ready, and he would be out in 3 pushes. After a few contractions, a few pushes, and an epesiotomy, he was born about 10 minutes later.
The nurses had fun doing his hair. I had great nurses, and they always commented on how cute he is. Of course we think he is perfect and as cute as can be, but we are the biased parents. I was worried he wouldn't have hair... after Nathan had so much and everyone loved it, I was afraid this one wouldn't get the same attention... but I guess my fears were in vain.

Nathan absolutely loves being a big brother! Jon has been really good to give him lots of extra love and attention. He occasionally gets frustrated that he's not getting the attention that he wants, but overall he has been great! He loves to help out and give him hugs and kisses. He is really good at being soft and kind. It's really cute to hear him say Matthew. (Sometimes he does forget his name, since we just named him yeterday:) and calls him baby Wyatt, who is his baby cousin.)

We are so blessed with two healthy, happy, and adorable boys. We couldn't be more grateful and humbled to be blessed and trusted with these wonderful children. What a joy they both are to us. We will definitely have our adjustments to having two, but so far we are loving life and the new addition to our sweet family.
